When you see the heading, you'll be like "DNS"? Yes, I know that Domain Name System (DNS) on a Smart TV refers to a feature that reroutes your internet traffic’s DNS queries through a proxy server to bypass geo-restrictions. This will give you access to region-locked content on your streaming services.
The point is why would you need DNS to unlock more contents on your smart TV? Have you ever got locked out of streaming content on your TV because of your location before? If you have, you'll delete with what I'm insinuating. To cut the long story short, I found an easy DNS tweak that expands the selection of shows and movies on my Smart TV.
If you follow the same steps, you can use the trick to unlock more content on your smart TV as well. Without much ado, let get straight into it. However, don't hesitate to share your thoughts about this DNS trick in the comments section.
How to Use Smart DNS Proxy to Unlocks More Contents
A Smart DNS Proxy is a specialized proxy server that combines intelligent traffic management to minimize interruptions while accessing online content. The DNS proxy routes internet traffic through an intermediary server, hiding your IP address and bypassing geo-restrictions and blocks. It'll also automatically filters out unwanted notifications, ads, and malicious content.
So, if you're locked out of your favorite contents because of geolocation, the Smart DNS Proxy can actually help you to unlock them. The fun part of it is that the DND proxy will also open up new streaming contents without slowing down your connection or making your streaming a hassle.
Streaming services like Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix and other fetch your device's IP address first whenever you turn them on. This will let them know where you're located and restrict some certain contents to you because the contents are not meant to be served in your location.
However, with Smart DNS Proxy activated, the requests to fetch your device's IP address will be channelled to a special server that replies in a way that makes the streaming service think you're in a country where the content is available.
Note: Your actual IP address remains unchanged, and the video stream’s internet traffic flows directly to the streaming platform. This ensures that the same fast speeds you expect when DNS is not activated is still rendered without buffering or delays.
DNS Proxy vs VPN
I prefer to use a Smart DNS Proxy over a VPN for streaming geo-restricted content on platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and others because it unlocks shows and movies from different regions without slowing my connection.
DNS also avoids encrypting traffic or rerouting my streaming traffic through distant servers which may cause delays or slow internet speed.
However, despite all these benefits, there are still some disadvantages of DNS Proxy over VPN. DNS prioritizes access over privacy. What I mean is that DNS Proxy do not encrypt data or hide browser like VPN does.
The Verdict: DNS Proxy vs VPN
If you're looking for hassle-free streaming on a Smart TV, a Smart DNS Proxy is a good choice to unlock restricted contents. However, if you're looking for enhanced security, using a VPN is the best option for that kind of work.
How to Set Up Smart DNS Proxy Smart TV
You'll need to manually change your Smart TV DND settings to be able to setup a new Smart DND Proxy on the TV. While the setup processes are simple, it's important to note that it is also varies slightly depending on TV brands.
The setup processes are the same on Samsung Smart TV, Sony Smart TV, LG Smart TV and others. But in this guide, I will be setting up Smart DND Proxy on Google Smart TV. So, stay turned as I walk you through the step-by-step processes in the explanation below.
1. SetUp Smart DNS Proxy Account
This is the first step you'll need to do before you can start making manual changes on to your streaming platform's DND settings.
Register an account on Smart DNS Proxy using your valid email address and password. Once your account is registered successfully, navigate to list of proxy servers on your dashboard.
The list of Smart DNS Proxy servers consist of all the proxy servers they are operating as shown in the image posted above.
2. Obtain Smart DNS Proxy Addresses
Two (2) DNS addresses are needed when changing the follow-come DND addresses manually. You can get the two address on the Smart DNS list of proxy servers. You can get the addresses for the country you want to stream their contents.
In this guides, I'll be using the Smart DNS Proxy addresses for Japan (which is 54.64.107.105) and New Zealand ( which is 223.366.64.97). Once you obtain your DNS addresses, then you can proceed to change your streaming platform DNS Settings on Smart TV. However, make sure the tab is not closed.
3. Change DNS Settings on Smart TV
To change the DNS settings to the obtained Smart DNS Proxy addresses on your Smart TV, grab your remote and press the Home button to access the settings menu. Head to Network & Internet, select your Wi-Fi network, and go to IP settings.
Now, switch from DHCP to Static to lock in your DNS settings. When prompted, keep your IP address and Gateway as they are, but enter 54.64.107.105 (Japan) as DNS 1 and 223.366.64.97 (New Zealand) as DNS 2 to enjoy seamless access to geo-restricted content without your router changing things.
After entering the DNS addresses, save the settings and restart your Smart TV. It's important to restart because the changes require a reboot to activate. After the reboot, you'll need to open a browser on your PC, log into your Smart DNS Proxy account, and check for a confirmation mark showing the setup is active.
If it doesn’t work, verify the DNS entries for typos or try another server from the provider’s list, as the chosen one might be offline. Once set, launch Amazon Prime on your TV to access new content seamlessly, with streaming quality as smooth as ever. This quick setup unlocks a world of shows in minutes, making Smart DNS Proxy a simple solution to bypass streaming restrictions.
