Waymo has reportedly launched teen account in the United States. The account allows teenagers to order rides and ride in the driverless robotaxis without adult supervision. The company calls it "independence for teens. Free time for parents."
However, it's important to note that this account is only available to teenagers from age 14 to 17. Even though parents supervision is not necessary, Waymo said parents permission is needed.
Waymo teen accounts let younger riders (ages 14-17) get around Metro Phoenix on their own with parental permission. Parents get time back, and grant teens independence with a trusted, fully autonomous Driver.
Currently, this teen account is only available in Phoenix, but Waymo is planning to offer the service in other cities down the line. Teen riders can be included on a standard Waymo account, with all ride receipts sent to the designated adult. Additionally, trip details can be shared with a parent to provide live updates during the ride.
In addition to that, Waymo allows up-to 4 teenagers to share one robotaxi as long as they're older than 14 and not more than 17 years. However, Waymo says its support team is trained to assist young riders and alert parents when needed.
How to Create a Waymo Account as a Teenager
First of all, you'll need to download the Waymo One App on either Google Play Store or Apple App Store, depending on your device's maker. Another thing you'll need to create a Waymo account as a teenager is an adult, such as a parent or guardian, to set up a regular Waymo account.
Waymo requires that teens be added under an adult’s account, as they cannot create accounts on their own. The adult can then invite you as a teen rider through their account—allowing you to use the service under their supervision. This process ensures that the adult receives all ride receipts and has full control over the account settings.
Once added, you’ll be able to request rides through the Waymo app, just like any other rider. However, certain safety features are automatically enabled for teen riders. Your trip information can also be shared with your parent or guardian in real time; this will give them live updates throughout your ride.
In a nutshell, creating of Waymo Account for Teen is usually done through parents or guardians account. Despite the fact that parents supervision isn't necessary, their permissions are needed to use the teen account on Waymo.
